Wadoryu karate is a Japanese martial art that is based on Okinawan karate and Japanese Shindo Yoshin Ryu jujutsu. The Wadoryu style of karate is well suitable for all men and women, regardless of age, shape or size. The techniques in Wadoryu include (but are not limited to) punches, kicks, blocks, throws and joint locks. For those who are interested, competing in kumite (controlled fighting) or kata (patterns of movements) is also possible in karate.
Joen Mawashi is a karate club founded in 1975. The club is affiliated with the Finnish Karate Federation and has also a direct connection to the Japan Karate Federation as a Wadokai branch.
The dojo (training place) is located at the Joensuu Sports hall. Training sessions are held almost every day of the week. If you are interested in karate, you are more than welcome to watch the training sessions and ask questions. The beginner courses are held twice a year. Usually the spring term course starts around in January or February and the fall term course starts in September. The length of the course is about 3 to 4 months. The juniors group is for children ages of 7 to 12 and the adults group is for everyone from 13 yrs and up.
