The founder of Wadō-ryū, Hironori Ōtsuka, was introduced to karate at around the age of 30. Before that, since from the age of 7, he studied several different jūjutsu and kenjutsu arts, where one notable was Shindō Yōshin Ryū jūjutsu. In this style of jūjutsu, Ōtsuka was awarded the Menkyo Kaiden, license of total transmission, at around the age of 29.
Now, the people in Finland have a great opportunity to see and experience the jūjutsu that Ōtsuka studied and to understand what makes the Wadō-ryū style of karate so special compared to e.g. purely Okinawan-based styles of karate.
The instructor on the seminar is the head of the Takamura-ha Shindō Yōshin Ryū, sensei Toby Threadgill, Menkyo Kaiden. Read more: www.shinyokai.com
The seminar is targeted for people studying Wadō-ryū and everyone interested in koryū martial arts. The seminar is organized by Wadokai Finland and TSYR Nagarekawa Dōjō Joensuu.
